Smashed Uganda
Tropical High School recently welcomed the Smashed Uganda team for a powerful and eye-opening presentation aimed at raising awareness about the dangers of underage drinking. The program, which uses theatre and real-life storytelling, teaches students how alcohol misuse can affect friendships, health, education, and future opportunities.
Smashed Uganda is part of an international youth-education campaign that reaches millions of teenagers worldwide. In Uganda, the program has been visiting schools to support young people in making safer, healthier choices. The session at Tropical High School combined drama, discussion, and student participation, which made the message engaging and easy to understand.
During the performance, actors demonstrated how peer pressure can lead students into risky behaviour, and how saying “no” confidently can prevent long-lasting consequences. The play followed the story of three teenagers whose lives were negatively affected by early alcohol use, showing how one “small” choice can grow into a serious problem.
After the drama, facilitators held a lively question-and-answer session where students shared their thoughts about alcohol, peer influence, and decision-making. Many learners said the session helped them understand the importance of choosing friends wisely and staying focused on their education.
The school administration praised the program, noting that awareness campaigns like Smashed Uganda help keep students informed and safe. “Our goal is to nurture disciplined, responsible young people,” one teacher said. “Programs like Smashed give students the knowledge and confidence they need to protect their future.”
The event ended with a strong call to action: students were encouraged to make smart choices, resist peer pressure, and support one another in building a positive school environment. Tropical High School hopes to continue partnering with youth-empowerment programs that promote health, responsibility, and academic success.
